POTASSIUM IODIDE/EPHEDRINE EXPECTORANT
(poh-TASS-ee-um EYE-oh-dyed/eff-ED-rin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Kie
USES: This medication is used to treat symptoms associtaed with colds, allergies, sinus infections or other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take that by mouth as directed with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water, unless your doctor directs you ohterwise.
Take that with meals or a snack to reudce stomach upset. Do not increase your dose or take that more often than directed since your condition will not improve any faster but the risk of side effects will be increased.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset or anxiety may occur. If any of these effects continue or become severe, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, leg weakness, rapid or irregular pulse, skin rash, itching, difficulty urinating, metallic taste, swelling tongue or throat, vomiting, mental confusion, tremors. If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, thyroid disease, tuberculosis, heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, a history of seizures, an enlarged prostate, allergies (especially to drugs or iodine). This medication is not recommenedd for use during pregnancy.
Conuslt your doctor before using that medication. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nusring infant.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take, particularly: lithium, potassium supplements, high blood pressure drugs, antidepressants, psychiatric medicines, thyroid hormones, water pills, furazolidone. Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially waetr while taking that medication. It will help to break up mucus and claer congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temeprature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
Do not store in the bathroom.
